This year we are supporting the Boaz Trust and will be donating both our monetary and food and toiletry gifts. The Boaz Trust is a Christian charity serving destitute asylum seekers and refugees in Greater Manchester. As a Christian charity they are motivated by Jesus’ instructions to care for the poor and marginalised in our society. The charity’s name is taken from the Book of Ruth, in the Bible. A man called Boaz welcomes Ruth who is a foreigner in the land, and shows her kindness.

On the last Wednesday of every month, the Boaz Free Shop opens its doors. Asylum seeking clients are not allowed to work or claim any benefits, and so they are often dependent on the trust for even basic food supplies. At Free Shop, they are able to choose from a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, tinned and dried foods, store cupboard essentials and toiletries.

Look out for details of goods required in the weekly notices.

Any financial support can help in the following ways:

  • £30 could pay for a legal appointment enabling clients to submit fresh evidence
  • £20 could pay for bedding and emergency food and toiletries for a homeless asylum seeker
  • £10 could pay for a food parcel for an asylum seeker for one week
  • £5 could pay for a bus pass allowing an asylum seeker the freedom to travel and participate in Boaz Life activities.

If you want to know more about the Boaz Trust google Boaz Trust Manchester, or if you want to know why we have chosen this charity please speak to one of the stewards.

If you have the yellow weekly gift aid envelopes for our Church and wish to give to the Boaz Trust on 7th October you can write “the Boaz Trust” on your usual envelope.  This is the same for any of our quarterly charities, you can use your weekly gift-aid envelope and write the charity name clearly on the envelope.
